Are You in Love?

IF SO
Don’t go to yoga teacher
Training together.

Why would I say such a thing? Nonsense, right? Maybe. But, I’ve seen it happen more than once. You see, the spiritual journey or path, or dharma is very much a solo trip.

Your teachers, guides, gurus will tell you about love in a way that makes you question what it is far too often. Furthermore, as each individual begins that transformation, that break from a lower level of consciousness to a higher one, their interpretations of what their love is, starts to change with them. Couples will look at each other differently. One person or the other may do more meditation, may feel more of a change than the other, may want alone time more than the other.

Once or twice a week yoga is much different than every day yoga. The every Sunday yoga together might generally be followed by lunch and sweet emotional tantra sex and a state of bliss.

The yoga teacher training yoga might generally be followed by a desire for solo sleep on a bed of nails to explore levitation. I’m exaggerating, of course, but not by much. When couples go to yoga teacher training together it reminds me of the old EST workshops that pretty much guaranteed that one person of each couple would find something so disturbing about their relationship, they called it off. Right as soon as they got home and unpacked. Or at the workshop where they were encouraged by lonely narcissists leading the workshops.  EST finally broke up enough relationships, that people stopped going. But  It only took a few months and the same people founded another workshop called Landmark. Just another cult by a different name.

So, think about what you really want out of yoga and meditation. Do you want to just feel more calm, relaxed, happy in life, or do you want to become the monk or zen master sitting alone on a mountain top with all his/her wisdom reduced to quotes that really only sound good in books, but offer no real practical help in life!

Whatever you decide, do it alone. Then find someone who loves that version of you.

Peace Love, Namaste
